HARARE- Fifteen MDC Alliance members of Parliament have attended parliament this Tuesday against a directive from the party to detach itself from the legislature, ZBC News reports.
The directive was given last month by a faction rallying behind Nelson Chamisa ordering MDC Alliance members to detach itself from all House of Assembly and Senate businesses after the recall of four opposition legislators by Thokozani Khupe’s party.
Speaking to media practitioners Mashakada insisted that they: ”have to attend House business and this is something we agreed to do as a party”.
Vincent Tsvangirai, Virginia Mafuta, Dorcas Sibanda, Peter Moyo, Wesley Sansole, Memory Mbondiya, Francesca Ncube as well as Brightness Mangora are some of the MDC Alliance Mps who attended the Tuesday House of Assembly sitting.
The controversies amongst the opposition members emanated from the declaration by the Supreme Court that Chamisa’s leadership was illegitimate and ordered the party to have an election to replace him within three months.
The Courts ruling eventually reinstated Dr Khupe as the legitimate leader of the party, albeit Nelson Chamisa’s loyalists continued rejecting the order since March 31 2020.
The MDC Alliance submitted an application to the High Court challenging the recall of legislators by the Thokosani Khupe’s MDC T.
