Harare – Economist, Legislator, and former shadow Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Tapiwa Mashakada has expressed gratitude towards United Kingdom based businessman Uebert Angel and his wife Bebe Angel for a 9th consecutive donation towards Zimbabweans grappling food shortages and famine.
Mashakada, who is the Member of Parliament for Hatfield spoke on the sidelines of receiving food aid which was distributed to 1200 members of his constituency, mostly the elderly and the vulnerable.
The remarks come barely a week after ruling Zanu PF’s Tongai Mnangagwa also thanked the Uebert Angel Foundation for a similar donation, while independent legislator Temba Mliswa echoed the same sentiments twice, as he received aid from the Angel Foundation.
The Uebert Angel foundation pledged $1 million dollars for Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 fight, and has so far spent just under a quarter of a million in Zimbabwe alone.
Mashakada, a former Minister of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion in Morgan Tsvangirai’s shadow government praised the philanthropic efforts of the Uebert Angel Foundation.
“I would like to thank Prophet Uebert Angel for this philanthropic gift to the people and community of Hatfield. We know that the Prophet has pioneered this programme of donating food to the needy even before the start of the lockdown period and today we in Hatfield have become beneficiaries.”
In 2020 alone, Uebert Angel has paid school fees for nearly 2,000 rural school children, bought medicines for elderly people, and donated clothes and blankets in Mozambique, Zambia, Bostwana and South Africa.
Supported by the Angel Foundation partners, at least 50,000 families have received direct aid, while many others have been lined up in the coming weeks.
Local Television station ZBC carried a similar report, which singled out Uebert Angel for his works.
