Government is still at loggerheads with Robert Mugabe’s family about where the former leader’s body will be finally laid to rest.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa addressing government officials, mourners and journalists in Harare, paid tribute to the late leader as revolutionary icon but failed to disclose information pertaining to his final resting place.

“Our founding father of the nation, of independent Zimbabwe, our revolutionary commander during our armed liberation struggle and pan africanist liberation icon has left us

“We are gathered here to receive his body, our commander will pass through our Commando, then the body will proceed to the residency of the former president, the blueroof today.

“There after the programme will be announced by the responsible ministry of Home Affairs,” he said.

Sources close to the Mugabe family revealed that negotiations between government and the family over the late leader’s final resting place had been fruitless this far.

Mugabe’s final wishes were to be buried in his home village in Zvimba after he had a fallout with the current administration following the November 2017 coup.

Government has been engaging Mugabe’s family for Mugabe to be buried at the national heroes acre.
