Harare – Family members and former political heavyweights have tabled a list of demands to President Emmerson Mnangagwa which include among them a cash payment of $2 billion United States Dollars and post in the country’s executive.
The list of demands were apparently tabled as a bargaining tool to Mnangagwa should he want Mugabe to be buried at the Heroes Acre.
The Mugabe family are reportedly concerned about the security of their investments in the country and are demanding some form of political power in exchange for allowing the body of Robert Mugabe to be buried at the heroes acre.
“What has happened is that, without Bob, Grace is being told that her allies and herself may not be safe. To be safe she would need to be Vice President.” a source told Mail and Telegraph.
“Also, there is a belief among the rejuvenated G40 that with Vice Presidents Chiwenga and Mohadi unwell, a return for Grace Mugabe would pave way for her to take over power from Mnangagwa” the source added.
Towards the run up to the 2018 elections, Grace Mugabe was reported to have wanted to run as a potential Vice President under Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance ticket.
The debate surrounding her role in the alliance led to a split within a party she funded, the NPF, led then by Ambrose Mutinhiri.
Thousands of Zimbabweans gathered in the capital earlier today to bid farewell to the former President at Rufaro Sports Stadium.
