MDC’s protest that was scheduled today morphed into a shutdown after virtually all businesses closed shop after the police unleashed their wrath dispersing civilians turning the peaceful demonstration into rowdy clampdown.
Immediately after the High Court dismissed MDC’s urgent Court application to proceed with the demonstration police started dispersing protestor using excessive force.
The police threw teargas and beat protestos and civilians alike with baton sticks to disperse the crowds gathering at Africa Unity Square and other parts of the city.
Some protestors tried to resist police brutality by regrouping and proceeding with the demonstration chanting “Huya, Huya, Huya!!” Which means come, taunting the police.
However attempts by protestors to regroup and proceed with the demonstration were overwhelmed by the heavy police presence in every corner of the city that didn’t hesitate to use excessive force.
Harare cbd was left deserted and only the police, journalists and few defiant civilians littered the city.
