MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe says she has instructed her lawyers to engage Nelson Chamisa and his team after the High Court ruled that she must call for an extraordinary congress to deal with the presidency in the opposition.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Khupe said the High Court ruling by Justice Edith Mushore vindicates her position that she was the legitimate leader and not Chamisa.
“We have instructed our lawyers to see how we can comply with the High Court decision. We hope to find each other through dialogue,” she said.
The MDC of Chamisa has however ruled that they would ingore the High Court decision and go ahead with their decision to hold a congress in Gweru later this May.
The High Court had ruled that the late MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai had erred in appointing Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri as his VPs as this was unconstitutional according to the party’s constitution.
Khupe said so far she has been in talks with Douglas Mwonzora, the party’s Secretary General over the High Court decision but she needed to talk the other leaders for a way forward.
Khupe said in an event that Chamisa refuses to talk to her, they would take the matter back to the court for direction.
“Zimbabwe deserves a mature and patriotic leadership and we must show that so that we can attend to the numerous challenges facing the country. This is not the time for cheap propaganda,” said Khupe.
