The MDC has rubbished claims that their councillor in Domboshava sold a prosperous hill to the Chinese firm who threatened to evict more than 20 000.
Party Spokesperson Jacob Mafume on Tuesday said their councillor Tapiwa Murima who had been named as the person who authorised together with a district administrator, Prisca Dube the sale of Garimo hill to Chinese quarry miners by Information deputy Energy Mutodi, is innocent.
“We respond to unfounded allegations that a councillor sold a whole hill to the Chinese, that is preposterous and an infutile attempt by the chief childish minister Energy Mutodi to accuse a councillor of MDC to have sold a hill to the Chinese. We know who is selling minerals, we know who is selling diamonds and this is part of the process that is creating alarm and despondency in Zimbabwe,” he said.
He said senior government officials must be held accountable for the deal which has been resisted by Domboshava residents and forced President Emmerson Mnangagwa to cancel the deal.
Over 20 000 families were at risk pf being evicted after a Chinese firm was given the hilll and they intended to invest at least $500 million.
Mutodi has accused the councillor of having pocketed $600 000 from the deal together with the DA.
The MDC information chief said Mutodi and his Zanu PF should focus on dealing with the econony and not dragging the MDC in their corrupt deals
