The MDC Alliance has resolved to reserve a seat for a female vice president. MDC Alliance national spokesperson Jacob Marine confirmed the development.
“The National Council, which is the Supreme decision making body took note of the conclusion of the nomination process of the provincial congresses.
“All 13 provinces where there is competition, where there is competition for the vice president, where there are four men and four women.
In that regard the National Council resolved to consider on the positions of the presidium so that at least one of the vice presidents will have to be a woman.
“That has passed, the presidium will at least have a woman,” Mafume said.
He said the party and it’s independent electoral body would have to decide on the modalities.
“The modalities of that will be worked out, it will be worked out through the party and the independent electoral commission,” he said.
Mafume said provincial congresses had been concluded successfully.
“We had 11 200 branch congresses, 1980 ward Congresses, 210 district congresses and 13 provincial Congresses.
“”All of these have been concluded successfully, there has not been any major incidents of violence,” he said.
Mafume said nominees have up-to Wednesday to indicate whether they accept the nominations.
“We took note of the results of the nomination process, the president, president Chamisa has been nominated in all 13 provinces, South Africa is concluding now.
“The independent electoral commission gave a report on how these nominations went about. All nominees have up-to Wednesday to indicate whether they they are accepting the nominations, each person is entitled To one nomination,” he said.
