Dzikamai Mavhaire, the former energy minister took to the stand in court today and took the opportunity to vent out on the ‘unpleasant’ manner in which he was booted out from government at the dead of the night.
Mavhaire who was the energy minister in the Robert Mugabe led cabinet elaborated much to the bitter sweet amazement of the gallery before Hosea Mujaya of how he was sucked from his job without warning in the same way he had gotten im.
He was testifying in the matter of state andformer Zimbabwe Power Company, ZPC’s director Stanely Kazhanje.
The fateful June 2015 events were described by Mavhaire as very unpleasant and not worth remembering.
“A letter came to me during at midnight simply saying ‘your contract has been terminated with immediate effect, thank your good service in government, it is appreciate’ signed R.G. Mugabe, if you remember that man from Kutama,” said Machaire.
The gallery could not help but laugh at this inhumane gesture at the same time feeling sorry for Machaire.
He went on to say that he did not bother to ask why he was kicked out of office as he had not been told why he had been brought in office in the first place.
Mavhaire was kicked out together with ex- Higher Education minister Olivia Muchena and they were both recalled at the same time.
Reasons were that the two had been affected by provisions of Section 129 (1) (k) of the Constitution which provided that the seat of an MP becomes vacant if the member ceased to belong to Parliament and after a written notification by the political party concerned.
The expulsion of Mavhaire and Muchena came a week after, former Zanu PF Mashonaland West chairman, Ray Kaukonde (Marondera Central), Kudakwashe Bhasikiti (Mwenezi East) and David Butau (Mbire) were recalled from the National Assembly after their expulsion from the ruling party.
Mavhaire however said Kazhanje had no powers to influence Intratrek as a tender board was in charge.
Kazhanje is answering to charges of concealing intrests from his principal and the State has promised to charge his yet again for bribe, charges which had been dropped. He is to answer to the charges jointly with Wickneel Chivhayo.
