HARARE-Some bodies of people believed to be Zimbabweans who drowned due to the effects of Cyclone Idai are now floating in the Mozambican side, an official has said.
Addressing media practitioners at the post briefing cabinet today, Local Government, Public Works, and National Housing Minister, Hon July Moyo said there are some bodies of deceased due to the extreme rainfall which are now seen floating in Mozambique but the figure is not yet confirmed.
“…then they said we hear from Mozambique that there are some Zimbabwean bodies that are floating over there but until the army and relief agencies go to that area as they did in Ngangu to start counting and bury and to start identifying will continue to chain the figures, ” he said.
Moyo also said that government had discouraged people against mass graves of victims of the Cyclone Idai.
“Government discourages people being buried in Mass graves,” he said.
Rescuing efforts have been impeached due to the bridges which were washed away by the heavy water flow but fortunately, army engineers are striving to fix one of the destroyed bridges to give access to the affected areas.
“Rescue efforts have been slow because all the bridges were damaged,
“Army engineers are now working on one of the bridges so that dowsers can reach skyline,” he said.
