Youthful Member of Parliament for the MDC Alliance, Joanna Mamombe who was arrested yesterday has appeared before a Harare magistrate facing charges of Violating the Electoral Act.

MDC Alliance MP who is facing charges of subverting a constitutionally elected government has notified the state on her intention to challenge further remand if the state fails to furnish her tram with a trial date.

Through her lawyers of Zimbabwe Human Rights Lawyers, Jeremiah Bhamu and Obey Shava, Mamombe told the court to have that on April 8, the State which is represented by Sebastian Mutizirwa should furnish them with a trial date or else she must be removed from remand.

The State initially told the court that by April 4, it will be ready to proceed with trial.

Mamombe is however set to apply for the temporary release of her passport tomorrow in the same court.

She is accused of subverting a constitutionally elected government through a press conference she held in Harare.

Allegations are that she addressed a press conference on January 14 and advocated, suggested or urged people to engage in civil disobedience and called for (sabotaging of) government’s essential services intending to overthrow the government.

Harare Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa remanded the matter to April 8.
