A Harare magistrate has carried out an inspection in loco at the Zimbabwe Airways offices in a bid to understand the testimony given by a former employees who told the court that he had eavesdrop the detention saga of the former Head of the legal department.
Harare Magistrate, Victoria Mashamba had granted the application by Simba Chikore’s lawyer Jonathan Samukange who wanted to prove that the evidence led by one Simon Masakasa who is the former human resources manager at the airways was biased.
Masakasa had given evidence in court to the effect that he had overheard the altercation which later led to the detention of Bertha Zakeyo from his office compartment which he said was close by his.
The inspection however proved that the evidence he had led had been false as it is not possible to hear anything from his office as he had alleged.
After an intense cross-examination by Samukange, Masakasa admitted that he had made stories against Chikore out of bitterness for his impromptu termination of contract with the airline as he told the court that he was angry for being fired from his position.
Chikore is facing charges of unlawful detention. He allegedly had Zimbabwe Airways legal head Bertha Zakeyo detained for two hours at the airline’s offices in June last year. Chikore is jointly charged with Safeguard security guard Simbarashe Mutimbe. The two are out on $30 bail.
