Prophet Bushiri, wife, released

Pretoria – Controversial Malawian Prophet based in South Africa who was arrested by the HAWKS for  money  laundering money out of South Africa together with his wife, Mary have been granted R100 000 bail each Wednesday morning  by the Pretoria Specialized Commercial Crimes Court.

The couple was arrested on Friday last week over allegations of fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organized Crime Act.

According to the Eye Witness Bushiri and his wife, Mary, denied that they were responsible for the charges against them.

They argued that they have had no previous convictions against them or pending warrants of arrest.

The pair said they posed no flight risk as both their South African IDs and passports were held by police.

The State did not oppose bail.

They are expected back in court on 10 May.

The bail ruling attracted thousands of Bushiri’s followers.

The church External Media Relations Maynard Manyowa confirmed that the pair was granted R100 000 bail each and had been released.

The church authorities had to inform the public that the prophet will not be able to address his followers outside the court due to fear of a similar misfortune that ended up with three lives lost during their cross over service in December
