Mahachi finds form ahead of FC Platinum clash

Bulawayo-Zimbabwean international forward, Kudakwashe Mahachi is poised to cause an upset to FC Platinum when the two sides meet on Saturday if the speedy winger continues with his recent form.

The two clubs will do battle on Saturday at Barbourfields Stadium in their first match of the Total CAF champions’ league group stages.

Since joining the Soweto giants, Mahachi who had been struggling to get game play is slowly getting into the picture.

The Zvishavane based club was forced to move base from Mandava to Barbourfields Stadium after CAF inspectors condemned Mandava stadium for the group stages.

Mahachi has been inspirational in the last two matches for the Buccaneers despite coming in as a substitute.

On Saturday night, Mahachi saved his team from the jaws of defeat from Highlands Park, coming in as a substitute replacing Shonga to equalize in a 2 all match.

On Tuesday night Mahachi came from the bench to score the fourth goal as they thumped struggling Chippa United at Orlando Stadium, with his goal described as the best for the match.

The win against Chippa meant that Pirates moved to within two points of log leaders Wits University and Chippa remained two places from the bottom whilst stretching their winless run to 11 matches.

After the match, Pirates coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic spoke about the need to tighten things at the back and take more risks upfront to win their next matches with their next encounter being against Zimbabwean champions.

Mahachi will be making a return to his former home ground Barbourfields Stadium where he used to ply his trade for Chicken Inn and Highlanders FC.

“There are a lot of expectations in this match which is likely to be explosive. No one wants to lose at this stage (group stage). It will be more difficult for me, playing back home in Bulawayo.

FC Platinum is no push over, I know how they play and the amount of experience they have in their team so we have to approach this game with respect,” said Mahachi.

Meanwhile, FC Platinum arrived in Bulawayo on Tuesday night and held their first training session at the match venue on Wednesday.

FC Platinum has acquired the services of experienced players Godknows Murwira from Ngezi Platinum and Edmore Chirambadare.

Chirambadare adds loads of experience, having previously represented Chicken Inn in Africa’s premier club competition and also having played for Kaizer Chiefs in Mzansi.
