MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has summoned Chitungwiza councilors over vote buying allegations which occurred during the controversial mayoral elections which were held in October 2018, the Mail and Telegraph has learnt.
A source close to the goings on revealed that Gift Tsverere who was elected as mayor allegedly bribed Jabulani Mtunzi with a Toyota Camry vehicle which the latter made a ‘swap and top deal’ with a Chitungwiza man without Tsverere’s consent.
“The President (Chamisa)has summoned 20 councilors from Chitungwiza he is not happy with what happened during the mayoral elections where his name was dragged into the mud,” revealed our source.
Tsverere then reported the matter to the police in which he alleged that Mtunzi had sold his car which he had given him for temporary use.
According to the source, Chamisa called Tsverere on Wednesday morning telling him to withdraw the case which the he did and the docket did not find its way to Makoni Magistrate court.
“President Chamisa called Tsverere ordering him to withdraw the case and he has summoned all Chitungwiza councilors to Harvest House” said the source.
MDC Alliance spokesperson Jacob Mafume confirmed that the councilors are currently at Harvest House but denied that they were summoned by Chamisa.
“Yes , Chitungwiza councillors are here for the evaluation of the hundred day plan.” said Mafume.
He professed ignorance on the bribery and vote buying allegations
“I am not aware of those allegations , you have mentioned.” said Mafume.
