Reigning soccer star of the year Rodwell Chinyengetere who recently joined South African outfit, Baroka FC from champions FC Platinum said he is ready for his debut appearance for the Limpopo side which might be against provincial rivals Black Leopards on Sunday.
The Telcom Knockout champions will take on Black Leopards on Sunday, in their first match of the year at Peter Makoba stadium.
In the last Limpopo derby last year, Lidoda Duvha edged Baroka one nil, courtesy of a late goal by Phathutshedzo Nange in the 77th minute.
Chinyengetere, who finished last season as Zimbabwe’s top scorer said he knows what was ahead of him when he joined Baroka and is ready to add an impact to his new pay masters.
“The match at the weekend might be my first for the team and my first step into a new journey after leaving Zimbabwe. It will be interesting to have my debut as a derby. A lot is at stake for the team and supporters are expecting us to turn the tables around.
“I will do my level best to do well for the team if the coach gives me the opportunity on Sunday. I came here knowing that it will not be an easy task but I am ready for it,” he said.
Chinyengetere joins fellow Zimbabweans goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze and striker Talent Chawapiwa.
Before joining the Limpopo side Chinyengetere was named soccer star of the year in two consecutive season, carving his name into history books of the pool of players like Peter Ndlovu and George Shaya who won the top accolade back to back.
Chinyengetere also managed to finish the season as the top goal scorer for the season.
