Sungura music supremo Alick Macheso encouraged parents to support the desires and ambitions of their children regardless of their own views.
Macheso said this on the sidelines of his show at Jongwe Corner in Harare on New Year’s day.
Macheso reminisced the days when his own parents were beating him whenever they saw him playing a guitar.
“In the old days I remember when my own parents were beating me saying haa zvemagitare ndezvehurombe. Hapana aiziva kuti remangwana richange rakamira sei?” Macheso told his fans.
During the show, the Charakupa hitmaker said it is known that parents have their own expectations when they groom their children but they should also consider what the children want.
“Semubereki unenge uine tarisiro yekuti dai mwana wangu aita izvi kana izvi but in the end the child’s desire is the most important. If you see your child knitting, support her. Ukawona mwana achitamba newaya mubatsire semubereki. Ukawonawo anoda zvechikoro mubatsire nekuti zvirimubhonzo zvemwana unozviona achiri kukura.(Parents have expectations from their children but they should let them be),” he said.
Macheso also invited Tedious Matsito’s son Muchapedza, who recently finished his Ordinary level studies, to the stage and he gave the fans the best memories of Tedious Matsito .
Muchapedza performed some of his father’s greatest hits including Gede mwana much to the fans’ delight.
“Anogona mukomana uyu and I stay with him. He recently finished his ordinary level studies and he has a bright future in music as you witnessed,” Macheso told fans.
