Government denounces ‘time wasting’ investors

Government is calling on serious investors into the country and guarding against gamblers and time wasters , a senior government official has said.The country under the new dispensation,  has opened up democratic space and adopted ‘Zimbabwe is Open For Business’ mantra, but there is need of due diligence and background checks when engaging potential investors.Addressing delegates  of diasporans investors collectively known as  Pamwe Capital in the capital on Friday, Environment, Tourism and Hospitality, Prisca Mupfumira said government was looking for serious investors and not time wasters.“We have relaxed tax regimes for Special Economic Zones. “We want serious investors who can start tomorrow,  no time wasters or chancers who just want to gamble with Zimbabwe or the next nation,” she said.At the same event , Minister of Lands, Agriculture,  Water and Climate Retired Air Marshal Perence Shiri said government also considered homegrown solutions of reviving the economy and hence the initiative to give incentives to entrepreneurs across all sectors of the economy.“Government is paying particular attention in incentivising entrepreneurs to start up in new sectors by covering their risk,’ he said.He said mining among other sectors had potential to contribute to the country’s economic turnaround.‘Government recognises mining, tourism, agriculture and manufacturing industry as key economic sectors with the potential to increasingly contribute to the national economic turnaround of Zimbabwe.“These sectors are supported by the energy and transport sectors which areas are also critical to economic development,” he added.
