Vice President Constantino Guveya Chiwenga has endorsed the candidature of President Emmerson Mnangagwa for the 2023 harmonised  elections, putting to rest speculative reports that the two are fighting for the country’s Number 1 post.

Addressing delegates at the ruling party’s annual conference in Esigodini on Friday ,the former army boss endorsed Mnangagwa.

“Come 2023 you (Mnangagwa) are our one and only presidential candidate. We will run with you and the party ZANU PF continues to draw from your wise leadership. We won’t wait for 2013 but start now to prepare for your victory, which is certain,” he said.

Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri also  went on to rubbish reports that Mnangagwa and Chiwenga were at loggerheads.

“We have heard what the Vice President has said, our sole candidate is Emmerson Mnangagwa. This has made it clear that we don’t have inhouse fights or divisions, the vote of confidence by the Vice President for the President should clear the air and silence the naysayers who believe we are divided,” Muchinguri said.

Chiwenga’s endorsement of Mnangagwa’s candidature comes after all the provinces had endorsed Mnangagwa’s rule and candidature in the next elections in 2023, barely five months after the last election.

Mnangagwa narrowly won the July 30 presidential race with 50.8% of the vote – just enough to avoid a run-off against the opposition Movement for Democratic Change’s Nelson Chamisa, who scored 44.3%.
