Soldier kills ‘cheating’ lover

Gweru- A suspected love triangle has ended in tragedy as a 29-year-old soldier beat his 32- year- old girlfriend to death on Sunday night after suspecting her of having a romantic affair with his workmate, the Mail and Telegraph has learnt.

The soldier Tashinga Musonza, stationed at Josiah Tongogara Airbase, Gweru pilot has allegedly beat her girlfriend Lucy Dube after he accused her of cheating on him with a workmate identified as George Mangwenjere.

According to a police memorandum gleaned by this publication a murder case was opened and the matter is being investigated under Gweru Central police under reference RRB3692653.

It is said that on November 25 2018 Musonza went to Dube’s place and found her asleep.

Musonza is alleged to have a misunderstanding with Dube accusing her of being in a relationship with his workmate George Mangwenjere who is a Flight Lieutenant at Josiah Tongogara Airbase in Gweru.

The two allegedly drove to Josiah Tongogara Airbase to clarify the issue with Mangwenjere and on arrival, the accused is said to have woke quizzed Mangwenjere who denied the affair.

The accused then allegedly started assaulting Dube with open hands while kicking her in full view  of Mangwenjere who tried and failed to stop the beating.

Mangwenjere then went to seek assistance from accused person’s friend Tawanda Johnson Munyanyi who was in the accused’s room.

When Mangwenjere came back, he found Dube lying unconsciously and in pain and he then allegedly advised the accused to take Dube to clinic.

In the company of Tawanda Johnson Munyanyi and Nokuthula Matsikiti, a trainee and the airbase and a friend to the deceased  and the accused drove to Claybank Clinic in Gweru where Dube was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.

The doctor referred them to Gweru Provincial Hospital and the sister in charge Mabel Gotora phoned Gweru Central Police reporting the matter.

This incident follows several reported matters involving crimes of passion.
