FC Platinum defensive link-man Devon Chafa wrote his own piece of history as he became the first top flight player to bag six league titles in the history of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.
Chafa joined FC Platinum after his contract with Buildcon FC of Zambia was cut short through mutual consent.
He joined FC Platinum in September and went on to score the league title confirmation goal a fortnight ago in a Zvishavane Derby against Shabanie Mine FC.
The solitary strike by the former Dynamos defensive link-man ensured FC Platinum were crowned league champions for the second-year running.
“I was happy first for securing ourselves the league title,” he said.
He said before joining the Zvishavane based side he never thought he would be celebrating his sixth title as Ngezi Platinum Stars kept on breathing onto their necks.
“I never saw it coming because Ngezi at some point where breathing down our neck and you know how it feels every time you play you will be wondering how the other team,” he said.
Having won the title four times with Dynamos, once with Caps United and FC Platinum, Chafa had an interesting story to tell.
“If you look when I won my first title with Dynamos, at some point we trailed FC Platinum by more than 15points, and with few games remaining we managed to wrestle it, it is a remarkable comeback.
“Then with Caps United I had to play the last 19 games after being deregistered during the first half of the season and now with FC Platinum I was coming from a short stint in Zambia and the beauty of it scoring against Shabanie to secure the points needed to wrap up the league so the first ones have always a story to tell,” said Chafa.
