Harare – Zanu-PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Pupurai Togarepi has hit back at MDC Alliance’s leader Nelson Chamisa’s weekend “inauguration” saying the ruling party will not lose sleep over “a crazy joke.”
In an interview with The Mail and Telegraph, Togarepi said the “inauguration” was a crazy joke.
“As he was bestowed in front of his MDC Alliance supporters as their president.
“Remember this guy has no political party maybe he was formalizing his amorphous creature called MDC Alliance and him as its president.
“How can he be president of a nation bestowed before his own supporters. It was a mock process and it remains a crazy joke. Nobody will lose sleep of jokes from political failures.
“It is just child play and those peddling it should be careful,” he said.
MDC Alliance vice president, Morgan Komichi announced during the party’s 19th anniversary at Gwanzura stadium on Saturday that Chamisa was the president of Zimbabwe.
“Should Chamisa be appointed, has God accepted, have you accepted, so Mr Chamisa is duly bestowed as the president of the Republic of Zimbabwe
“Let me call upon our president, the president of the Republic of Zimbabwe to come and address you,” he said.
Police had stopped the celebrations twice last month, citing a cholera outbreak.
Chamisa lost the presidential vote to President Emmerson Mnangagwa by 44.3% to 50.7%, respectively.
Chamisa challenged Mnangagwa’s victory and the Constitutional Court ruled against him and declared Mnangagwa the winner of the country’s July 30 presidential election.
