Harare – Independent Norton member of parliament Temba Mliswa and MDC Alliance Harare East legislator Tendai Biti have been appointed to influential parliamentary portfolios positions.
Mliswa has been re-selected as the Mines and Mining Development portfolio committee chairperson while Biti will chair the Public finance committee portfolio.
Mliswa has been very vocal in the committee as he probed the controversial missing US$15 billion worth of diamonds in Chiadzwa and pushed to drag former president Robert Mugabe to parliament for questioning.
He also summoned Vice President Kembo Mohadi in his capacity as the then State Security and Home Affairs Minister, former Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi and former State Security and Presidential Affairs Minister, Didymus Mutasa to appear before the committee at one time, saying he wanted to know whether they knew of the missing diamonds.
Biti’s appointment will also raffle furthers with Zanu PF legislators as his committee will play an oversight role in government spending and debt applications.
The former finance minister during the coalition era has always said the ruling Zanu PF government has always sidelined parliament when it comes to handling of government debts.
