Bulawayo – A total of 218 direct exhibitors have booked exhibition space which compares favourably to last year’s closing total of 153 direct exhibitors; representing a 42% increase, as the regional Mining, Engineering and Transport (Mine Entra) exhibition roars into life in Bulawayo today (Wednesday).

The exhibition that ends on Friday is running under the theme Mineral Beneficiation: Catalyst for Economic Growth.

This year’s 23rd edition will focus on advancing inclusivity, open dialogue and harnessing beneficiation opportunities throughout the mining value-chain in a bid to catalyse Zimbabwe’s economic growth.

The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Company Marketing and Public Relations manager Stella Nkomo said this year has seen a rise in exhibitor participants signaling the confidence companies have in the economy.

“The exhibiting companies will have a varied product mix which includes engineering equipment, fittings and accessories, building and construction, chemicals, education and training, hydraulic and lifting equipment, mining seismology, transport, signage and labelling equipment insurance services and protective wear among others.

“Of these, approximately 20% are new exhibitors, indicative of greater market confidence in both the Mine Entra brand and the potential of Zimbabwe’s mining industry in general,” she said.

Nkomo added that 7 538sqm of space had been sold by Monday, compared to 4 414sqm sold last year. The space sale represent 93% of space made available for sale and 70% increase from last year’s space occupancy, according to booking figures.

On the foreign exhibitor front, 11 companies have confirmed participation which is an increase from two foreign exhibitors from last year.

The countries being represented by the foreign exhibitors are China (5), Japan (1) and South Africa (5).

The Minister of Mines & Mining Development Winston Chitando will officially open the show at the Mine Entra Official Opening & Awards Cocktail to be held on October 11.

The key highlight for Mine Entra 2018 will be the main Mine Entra 2018 conference on Thursday.
